Peyton Anderson- Post on Phenomenology of Prayer class discussion

Phenomenology of Prayer Class Discussion.

I didn't really understand the first couple chapters in this book until we really started to talk about it in class.  I feel as though it's very dense in the way it is written that for me personally it takes me a little while to understand what the author is saying.  I really enjoyed the concept of prayer being "de-centering".  That you're thinking of someone else's benefit rather than your benefit.  The example of the Haitian lady with the coconuts was a good way for me to understand the concept of de-centering. I have learned through personal experience that prayer does help you calm yourself after a long/stressful day and that, that is called de-centering.  Reading through the book since our discussion in class has made it a little easier to comprehend/understand the author's point.
