On September 25,
we had the opportunity to listen to a young woman named Sarah talk about her
journey on the Appalachian Trail. To say I was impressed by the amount of miles
she has walked would be an understatement. It was the first time I saw someone
share their reflections from their journey, which was really special. I had no
idea how far they walked day-by-day or how important it is to go into town when
given the opportunity. I also watched “Appalachian Trail 2011: Frenchy, Hippy
Kippy, IB, BOTWFNJ” to learn more about the hardships of the trail. Professor
Redick admits the hardest part of the Appalachian Trail is to eat right. We see
this demonstrated through the man on the trail who would mix lucky charms,
pop-tarts, and other foods together in a Ziploc bag for his “meals”. Seeing
pictures of the after-math of the trail is very moving as these hikers have
lost tons of weight and have undergone a life-changing experience. I am
interested in learning more about peoples’ journeys along the Appalachian
Trail.
