Guest Speaker

I really enjoyed last week when Sarah came as a guest speaker. As the semester has progressed I have been curious as to how someone starts a journey, like walking the Appalachian Trail, so it was really neat to hear what motivated her. She is so brave to go out with no major experience! I definitely would not be that brave to do the whole trail on my first time out. It also seems that this would be how regular pilgrims make their life long friends. I don't blame her for not wanting to travel by herself! Between her stories and the stories Dr. Redick has told, I think the people you encounter would be one of the best things about the journey. Getting to share different parts of your journey with different people and how much they would contribute to your pilgrimage and ultimately your life. I also found it interesting that a lot of people don't finish because they can't keep up with eating enough. I never would have guessed that was a big reason why people get off the trail. Especially during the four state challenge; it would be hard to keep up and then recover. Sarah definitely added a new perspective to starting a pilgrimage and that you don't have to have much experience to do one. i hope we can hear from her at further points in her journey!
