Hannah's documentary on the Camino allowed me to see the many CNU students embarking on the Camino trail, in addition to listening to each students' reason for treading the trail. For instance, one girl stated she traversed the Camino because of her mother's passing. Another student offered he did it to "find himself". Irrespective of the reason, the CNU bunch desired to explore wilderness to escape their daily lives from the technology age.
Listening to their reasons helped me to understand not only their motives, but how their motivations affect who they are. The documentary captured the essence of the individual's relationship of the Camino trail. In conjunction with this documentary, Dr. Redick showed two other videos of CNU students walking the Appalachian Trail. The videos revealed how the students interacted with nature, and how they used the trail to meet their specific needs and wants. For example, the video depicting the student lip-syncing to music demonstrate how they used the trail to relieve themselves of worry and anxiety. The woods is an excellent place to "let loose", contemplate on whatever is haunting one's mind, or to escape the urban life. Watching the Appalachian trail and Camino videos lead me to believe that the trail becomes whatever the hiker makes of it.
