Student Choice II: Six Million Steps: A Journey Inward

This movie was similar to the Wayfaring movie, but instead of the Camino it was focused on the Pacific Coast Trail in the US which runs from the border of Washington and Canada to the border of California and Mexico. I liked this movie a little more than Wayfaring for a few reasons: 1. it just seemed to be on more of a personal level and 2. the movie was sectioned off it parts, for example, one section being trail names and another being the reasons behind why these people chose to hike the trail. I noticed that a very common reason for hiking the trail was unemployment, either losing their job or quitting it. Another common reason was walking the trail for someone else or a greater cause. Two of the hikers that I found most memorable are the man who was walking the trail for charity and the man who was walking for his friend, a fellow eagle scout, that passed away. The nature of the trail is much different from that of the Camino. The PCT, towards the southern end of California, goes from desert to the Sierra Nevada; both of which are challenging in their own way. I think the changes in landscape and the difficulties they bring is definitely a test of both endurance and commitment. But the PCT is also similar to the Camino in regards to how friendly everyone is to one another and the sense of communitas among the hikers. My favorite hiker that was featured in the movie was the woman who was hiking the trail with her dog. The  PCT is definitely something I would consider doing in the future.
