Alexa Botha (Mindfulness connection)
I've found a lot of similarities between Professor Kip Redick's class and my mindfulness, meditation and happiness class. I often times find myself getting the two classes work mixed up in my head because it focuses a lot on the same ideals. In seeing and researching how sacred places can often times become corrupt or more of a tourist destination than anything, I wonder if we applied that mindfulness to the places we see and touch then we would have a greater respect for them. IF people could learn how to become mindful, or maybe instead of no litter sins there could be a strong emphasis on mindfulness then people would not even have the slightest urge to litter. I've been reading The Little Book of Mindfulness, by Dr. Patrizia Collard and being mindful is gaining empathy and love towards others, it's not only for yourself but rather on being just and creating a better society around you. I think to tie sacredness and mindfulness together we could gain such advancement in the way that the world is cared for. I realize world peace is a bit if an ideal but baby steps such as creating a more generally aware public can lead us to a more peaceful pace of living.
