Student Choice #4
The ordinary can truly be extraordinary if it is made so. For me the ordinary, old M.V. Explore, the ship I traveled around the world on became something more then just a floating mass. It became a place where I was continuously called to, not just for the comfort of sleep and a shower, but to bring me closer to all the places and each port we pulled into. It was where my friends resided, it was where I could write in peace; it was the place where I felt like life was always flowing. For years the ship had been becoming more then just a ship and so on this day last year we celebrated a day of remembrance for all those close to the hearts of the people aboard that had been lost. On this day we all gathered on the back of the ship and told stories of those who had been lost. Some where sad, some happy and funny, some a simple commemoration for a life. Either way, the people who shared made that day, and that place something more. The natural energy generated from the presence of people who had built a bond over the past four months was outstanding. It took your breath away if you did not consciously remember to breath. The deck wasn't just a deck. The grooves of the wooden floor were filled with tears and love, the air was brisk but subtle, and the hands each person was holding was a warm reminder of the beauty of life. In an instance the ship became home.
