The Phenomenology of Prayer #2 Call and Response
In the prayer of Samuel, we see Samuel called by the voice of God. Each time he is asleep and wakes up thinking that his mentor had called him. This happens three times. By the third time, his mentor realized that it was God calling him and told him the next time that he wakes up he should respond with saying "Speak Lord, your servant is listening." This is an example of hearing the voice of God and responding. It is interesting to note that Samuel heard, but did not recognize that it was the voice of God for the first 2 times.
