The other concept that we have talked a lot about in class is pilgrimage, in the way it relates to long hikes and how it relates to sacred communication. We watched a video that talked a lot about people's testimonies and why they were hiking. And what is the difference between a pilgrimage and just a hike. I believe that a pilgrimage has a trajectory, you have a reason for what you're doing and you will finish it. As it states in our book, "An individual pilgrimage often originates in a vow by a supplicant to God or the saints who undertake the arduous pilgrim's way if he or his dear ones are freed form the present affliction." Because most of the time from what I've seen in class people have different reasons for hiking on these trails. Whether it's to free themselves spiritually, to get away from something terrible that might have happened, or just to take some time off and figure themselves out. I now understand why college graduates want to take a year or so off and just travel or do something fun.
