When I was writing my paper I came across many journal entries from trailjournals and whiteblaze. One of these entries really stuck out to me. KristalB, a hiker on the Appalachian trial, is hiking with her son to raise money to dig a well in Tanzania to support a village with water for up to 20 years. I thought it was beautiful how KristalB has turned hiking, something most people do for themselves to help them find an inner peace, to something that can benefit others. Everyone has an end goal when they hike, and most end goals are of self interest; but KristalB has found an end goal that will help others. I think the fact that KristalB is hiking to help others is amazing. She is going through the physical and emotional hardships of hiking the Appalachian trial to help hundreds of other people. I think this shows the true personality of the trail. This shows the kindness and compassion that the trail brings to people. KristalB has a project for herself, but this project also helps the projects of others and benefits others.
