Outside reading-3

Dr. Terrye Williams wrote a lesson recently about the meaning of wilderness and the advent journey. I was personally confronted by the meaning of wilderness as “the concept of chaos and disorder, not merely in the geographical sense, but as a state of one’s soul.” She further says it is the challenge of our lives “to find God in the wilderness experiences.” As a soon to be graduate, this has been a tumultuous semester. I’m trying to overcome the many challenges that college and life present at this time, and regrettably I have not seen the divine through much of it.
On the other hand, I have been humbled by college; much in the way that Turner characterizes liminal entities in The Ritual Process, I have been left with a spiritual “passiveness, humility, near-nakedness,” which I cannot say what the effect has been yet, but I’m sure I will know before long.
