Student Choice #3

This time last year I was about to disembark from the wildest journey of my life. I spent an entire semester on a ship, with people I had not know before, traveling to eighteen different countries all over the Atlantic ocean. Although I may not have realized it at the time this was a sacred journey for myself. I experienced constant uncertainty, and faced the shock of how enormous are world truly is. I was called to do this, for I feel in some way I was meant to. In return I felt a true sense of communitas in it purist form. Communitas is only properly understood through stories and stories their were. Each and everyday, without the presence of cell phones or the internet, the people I was traveling with shared their lives. They shared the reason for the trip, they shared their past and futures, they were engaging and it eventually felt like we were a family. On the ship, no one person was better then the other, we all came with two suit cases and a passport, no one person was more favorable or more wealthy. We simply knew that to survive out time away from everything we knew and loved, we had to become connected through more. There was no structure or necessary titles, there was only us and the ocean, each day we connected with one another through life.
