Phenomonology of Prayer 1

11/28/14

“Prayer that opens us up to the sacred is not a function of the earthly economy. Still less is it an expression or mimetic violence is, rather an imitation of the divine in its action of kenosis. Engaging in it, we empty ourselves and open ourselves to the other. In this very action we open a space for the divine in its creative action” (Mensch 71). Basically this means prayer is an imitation kenosis because of the way we empty ourselves. When doing so, we create a space, and let what will happen, happen. It’s like letting go to see what will come in and make a change in your life.
