Landscapes of the Sacred post 2

We discussed a lot from this text but what I took away from was the four axioms that we have talked much about.  I believe that this is a very big part of our class.  And I learned a lot of concepts through the semester with applying these axioms.   1. A sacred place is not chosen, it just is.  2. A sacred place is observed very often as an ordinary place, set apart to be extraordinary.  This means that who doesn’t know it is sacred will not know the significance of the place.  3. One can enter a sacred place and not realize it is sacred, which ties into the first two axioms.  Finally 4. A sacred place possesses and double impulse, a movement that is centripetal and centrifugal.  When I think about the ways that these can be applied to religious and sacred places.  I really like the way that chapter is wrapped up by saying, "These four axioms for the study of sacred place suggest a richer perspective form which the variety of American religious experience can be understood."  This has really helped me understand the ways in which people hike on the trails and how they find themselves and have a sacred journey.
