Phenomenology of Prayer 2. Opening Ourselves Up to a Decentered Life

When we initiate ourselves into prayer we are entering intimacy and sacredness. We are no longer serving our own projects but keeping in mind of the other projects around us… the ones that do not even belong to us as well. Prayer allows us to decenter ourselves, it gives us “”passionate reinvestment into the world” which is when we allow ourselves to value the projects of others as well. We become less selfish, we become selfless. In fact, that is what it is meant in The Phenomenology of Prayer when it is stated that prayer is a passionate reinvestment into the world. I do not think it is mean that we are investing into the world but into the people in the world. We are becoming more invested into their projects in order to serve them and value their hearts. We are still decentering ourselves in the moment of prayer and this is seen by are reinvestment into the hearts of others. To be invested into prayer is to be invested into the hearts and projects of others and when we can do that I believe we are decentering ourselves and allowing the raw intimacy and divinity enter.
