Phenomenology of Prayer 1. Prayer’s Power to Influence

As we were discussing The Phenomenology of Prayer in class today, November 18, 2014, we discussed how prayer can influence our moods and actions. One point Dr. Redick made was that when we are asked to lead prayer we immediately worry and think about what exactly we plan to pray about but the reality is that we are being asked to lead or given the opportunity to get to lead in a time of spirituality. In fact, in The Phenomenology of Prayer it is mentioned that prayer can be the “[rekindling] and [restoring] of the relationship between the creator and the created”. With that being said I think it truly is incredible having the opportunity to lead in that way. That is the phenomenology of prayer! At times we learn different and new ways of what prayer is but if we allow ourselves to truly be in the moment of that prayer we can realize that it truly is an opportunity to rekindle and restore the relationship with the creator and the created! I never thought of it like that but I think it is so cool getting to hear that in today’s discussion and taking it with me the rest of my life.
