Two Concepts of the Sacred

There are two ways the meaning of the word sacred can be analyzed. The first is nothing sacred can be seen by mankind. That sort of sacred relies upon faith in God and the places he has deemed holy. Anyone who would look upon God directly would be struck down by his power. In Zeus' case, the on-seerer would be struck by lightning and turned to ashes. The first meaning of sacred is kept apart from our earthly exchange with the world. It cannot be damaged or abused by mens greed. This meaning of sacred is impossible for men to obtain, in fact it would be dangerous for people to attempt to take something sacred in this sense.

The other meaning of sacred is people can interact with the sacred when the sacred decides to reveal itself. For example, Zeus impersonating a wanderer interacted with the ancient greeks. Or God interacts with certain people, and his message is spread by his prophets like Moses sharing the 10 commandments with people. This sacred can be experienced and felt by mankind. The best example of God incarcerating himself to interact with people is the Christian's belief in Jesus Christ being the Son of God, and being an extension of God himself. Sacred, in this sense, is a worldly safe interaction between people and spirituality.
