Natural Setting II: Southern California

Over the summer of 2014 I traveled to Southern California with my friend of 14 years to stay with my cousin for a week. Upon arrival, it was nothing like what I had imagined it would be. Every place we visited was drastically different. Venice Beach was definitely the most memorable place. All along the boardwalk and the beach there were so many different people from countless different backgrounds and it was the most diversity I have ever seen in one place. We witnessed everything from stoners, to the buff guys at muscle beach, to the hippies singing about nature and peace. After taking this class, I can see a little bit of communitas within Venice as it seemed as though every one was very accepting of the other people around them. Venice Beach isn't really a sacred place to me but I can see how it could be sacred to many other people. Its one place that everyone can be themselves and not worry about anyone or anything else trying to stop them from doing so.
